“Everybody Street illuminates the lives and work of New York’s iconic street photographers and the incomparable city that has inspired them for decades. The documentary pays tribute to the spirit of street photography through a cinematic exploration of New York City, and captures the visceral rush, singular perseverance and at times immediate danger customary to these artists. Covering nine decades of street photography, “Everybody Street” explores the careers and influences of many notable photographers––a number of whom have never been documented, featuring: Bruce Davidson, Elliott Erwitt, Jill Freedman, Bruce Gilden, Joel Meyerowitz, Rebecca Lepkoff, Mary Ellen Mark, Jeff Mermelstein, Clayton Patterson, Ricky Powell, Jamel Shabazz, Martha Cooper, and Boogie, with historians Max Kozloff and Luc Sante."

Bruce Gilden.
Bruce Gilden was like all artists, Bruce Gilden’s life bleeds into and informs every piece of work he’s ever created. Growing up in Brooklyn with what he describes as a “tough guy” of a father, Bruce developed a love of the streets, often calling them his “second home.” But the love was more than just a simple connection.Another defining characteristic of Gilden’s photography is his creative attraction to what he calls “characters,” and he has been tracking them down all through his career. His first major project, which he worked on until 1986, focused on Coney Island, the legendary Brooklyn beach where New Yorkers who cannot escape the city heat have been going for cheap thrills summer after summer.
This is one of many photographs Bruce Gilden has taken. however i has chosen this photograph amongst many others because this one caught my eye the most, just the emotions on this little boys face and the trashy environment behind him, just shows part of his life and the state he has to live in, and the children behind him as well and as we can see Bruce has focused this photograph on him there is so much that can be said about this photo. we are also showed this young little boy is on the streets unsupervised without any adult Bruce gilden has shown us, a basic photo witch we can judge this small child's life story.

Shadows&Reflections:Shadows&Reflections..
shadows and reflections are kind of like a theme that many photographers use. However these are some of the photographs i have taken around school, i like this style because it shows a different shade of 'someone' or 'something'. shadows and reflections can also mean something. in some of my photographs that i have taken there are many different shapes and sizes. for example.. the photograph i have taken of the bin, i have decided to get the shadow and the object witch is the bin in the photograph so other people can tell what that shadow is of. shadows can sometimes be one thing but seem like another. reflections? in one of my photographs i have photo of me standing in front of a glass door which i can see myself standing there, however that photograph is mixed with a shadow and a reflection. |
